Shariah … RIP!

Breaking News!

RIP To Shariah Law!

McGuinty said ‘F@#$ Off’ to Shariah!

By Toronto24Hours

Ontario will not become the first Western jurisdiction to allow the use of a set of centuries-old religious rules called Shariah law to settle Muslim family disputes.

In a telephone interview with The Canadian Press, Premier Dalton McGuinty announced Sunday his government would move to outlaw all existing religious tribunals under Ontario's Arbitration Act.

"I've come to the conclusion that the debate has gone on long enough," he said. "There will be one law for all Ontarians."

More at McGuinty shoots down Shariah law

The ban on religious laws also affect Jews

McGuinty ditches all religious laws

Jewish groups upset after McGuinty decides to scrap faith-based arbitration

TORONTO (CP) - Jewish groups want a meeting with Premier Dalton McGuinty after his surprise announcement that Ontario will outlaw all religious arbitration to settle family law disputes.

McGuinty told The Canadian Press on Sunday that Ontario would not allow a centuries-old set of Muslim rules known as Shariah law to be used to settle family cases through arbitration.

But McGuinty caught everyone off guard when he also announced he would introduce legislation to end other faith-based arbitration, which has been allowed since 1991.

Much more here …

One notch up for civilization of mankind? Or perhaps 5 Holy Points for McGuinty to go Heaven?

Either way ... Bravo, McGuinty. I say just ignore the Jewish buggers, there should be only one law ... Without Prejudice!

Next ... I think I should demand McGuinty to outlaw circumcision for boys and infants!

How interesting - especially to read all this happening in canada, one of those international liberal bastions.

If you're going to press for an outlawing of circumcision for boys, can I ask for a banning of all secular humanist education for kids? ;P

Postliberal, In reference to your response about my post. My post wasn't to tell you that Islam can not be modern and updated in this 21st century for a life with all the discoveries we have now. If it was like that, I wouldn't be Muslim. But rather, I have much similar opinion about the major problem you seem to have when tehy seek to turn this country into a religious state. Over the last 50 years, Muslim nations have progressed dramatically into the real world of the current century. Though, they still have their own nationalistic/religious problems in their country. Many seek to spread their faith like history tells us of such examples. Through that, Muslim based immigrants who left their home to retain in the West, come around to say that they want to place Islamic Law. But the question is, why couldn't they have gone to other Muslim nations if their home had been in a position of instability and war? If Islamic law is really a guaranteed law that people can easily install and put in practice, then there is no reason for them to leave the Arab Muslim world to go to the West. The Muslim world today is much the same as USA in certain aspects of lifestyle. Not all nations are oppressive to women, men or vise versa. And having been there, I wouldn't have much to complain about, other than the political status that lies among the people and government.

A partial reason is Muslims are gaining up on Iraq so they can install an even stronger stable Islamic law to start off some ideology called the Nation of Islam from there on.

Calm down Sara.

I don't think that is what PL trying to say ...

With a woman of you caliber in place, Islam has hope to be a truly contemporary and compassionate religion.

You said "A partial reason is Muslims are gaining up on Iraq so they can install an even stronger stable Islamic law to start off some ideology called the Nation of Islam from there on"

Are you suggesting Iraq should become an Islamic state like the Taliban Afghanistan or Ayatollah Iran?

I hope I am wrong because I don't see such governments as the role model. On the contrary, I regard them as the 'monkeys' in the evolution of mankind.

Lol La Bona, I was suggesting the intrsuive attacks in Iraq are coming from Muslims because they partially want to implace an Islamic Law and to take away any Shiite control in the government. Already there is a small city a few tens of Kms away from Baghdad and they have made their own personal courts, and Islamic Laws implaced in their city by Muslims in general.

In other words, it is going against the will of Iraqis one way or another because Iraqis havent themselves figured out what they want.

I think you got confused with what I said in my previous post.

Am I human to have suggest that I want Iraq to be like the Taliban in Afghanistan or Ayatollah Iran?
No I would not like an Islamic state that way. I wouldn't care less if there isn't going to be an Islamic state in Iraq.

Islam will not succeed if enough Muslims do not start to clean their mess up. All I seem to see of them lately is making excuses of the terror attacks and explaining its actions, but I like to view more of the future work and solutions to stabilize Islam and Muslim nations.

I hope Im wrong anyway. Id like to see some change before its way too late.

I seem to have got in a mix-up with replies, and accidentally lost one. Let's see if I can remember what I said...

“My post wasn't to tell you that Islam can not be modern and updated in this 21st century for a life with all the discoveries we have now. If it was like that, I wouldn't be Muslim.”

I don’t think we’re really at odds here, at all. I have no problem with Islamic law per say – there has to be a means of making faith public, all spheres of life, and this might be part of that aim. I would certainly be wary of a totally private, personal, confession that makes no impression on the public sphere. But there are some practices, and expressions, of this notion of Islamic Law that I do object to. An extreme conservative vision, such as certain fringe groups in this country express, does worry me a lot. There are many who see political and social Islam as analogous to the repressive and hard line forms we have seen in Afghanistan until a couple of years ago, and Saudi Arabia to this day. And some people, both within Islam and in wider society actually believe them. This peeves me, cos I know that it can be better than that – from what I’ve seen, and read. And you seem to be someone who’s of a more positive view, which I’m fairly sympathetic to.

We, all of us, need to bear in mind that best examples to hold up. Similarly for Christians, we might do a lot better than the neo-conservative USA vision.

It’s probably fair to say that a lot of the violence also stems from disaffection of the Sunni demographic. Whether by conflation of the power attained by Shi’ites, as an inevitable result of democracy and the balance of population, with the involvement of the USA in the country – as a perceived agent of evil and oppression. Or by the perception that the loss of power by the Sunni minority is associated with a decline in the country, by those Sunni hard-liners in the region who oppose any notion of Shi’ite political power. Or by a resentment on the part of a few Sunnis within the country, at their loss of former control.

Whether some in that minority, or the USA, likes it or not, it’s highly likely that Iraq will become an officially Shi’ite religious country some time soon. With or without the involvement of the Iranian regime.
